Beading in the Garden

Join us at kamâmak nihtâwikihcikan for a beading circle on Saturday, August 21st from 1-3PM, facilitated by Sienna Cashion-Dextrase (@sienna_beads)! Bring a project that you’ve already been working on, or something new. Beaders of all experience levels are welcome! Ociciwan will have beading kits available for those who don’t have materials. This is a drop-in event that takes place outside in the lot beside Ociciwan in the community garden. There will be folding chairs and a folding table where we can gather and bead together! Ociciwan will also have water, snacks, and sunscreen available. Read a little more about kamâmak nihtâwikihcikan, and Sienna below:

Sienna Cashion-Dextrase (she/they) is a Métis-French-Ukrainian educator and beadworker living, studying, and working in amiskwaciywâskahikan. Currently completing a bachelor’s degree in education, Sienna integrates Métis resurgence and queer liberation into her practices with the hope of creating open and celebratory spaces for all. In many Indigenous circles and communities, beadwork is seen as a form of medicine for both the maker and the wearer. Sienna’s tender creations echo this method of healing and resistance by reconnecting to a practice lost from her family, who are from High Level. With a dollop of good energy and resistance stitched into each piece, Sienna hopes everyone who wears her work will feel a sense of healing and joy. Sienna’s work can be found on Instagram at @sienna_beads.
