Telling Stories: A Film Weekend at Ociciwan!

✨ 🎬 Join us Friday November 29th, and Saturday November 30th for Telling Stories, a weekend of film at Ociciwan!

Telling Stories is a collection of short films from local and visiting Indigenous filmmakers who have a connection to amiskwaciywâskahikan. Come cozy up in our New Media gallery and let’s watch films that work across the fields of animation, digital, and analogue. Join Tiska as she steals back a flower for her lover in a post-apocalyptic city; Follow diaristic reflections on healing, change, and care through walks and visits with friends against the backdrop of Vancouver; Step into a dreamscape story following a young woman as she rises from the moss, embarking on a path of self-discovery; Revisit summer powwow season and watch regalia glitter around drum circles; Follow a temporal observation of nature, reflecting on the relational: the tethering of animal, earthly and human energies through moments of connection.

Featured Shorts:

Kimotiwin: The Act of Stealing, Keara and Caeleigh Lightning (Studio Ekosi)

Did It Hurt?, Dana Justine Belcourt

My Girl, Megan Shott

Alexis Powwow Drummers, Seth Arcand

future ready: cusp, KJ Edwards

Choose between two screenings:

🎟 Friday November 29th, screening from 6-7PM

🎟 Saturday November 30th, screening from 2-3PM, & an artist talk from 3-4PM

Please RSVP on our eventbrite linked above for either the Friday or Saturday screening! Tickets are free, but spots will need to be reserved for each day due to limited capacity.

We’ll have tea brewing, and bags of popcorn from our friends @themetrocinema! Bring yourselves, your family, your friends, and any questions you have for the filmmakers during Saturday's panel talk.
