Monkey Beach + Artist Talk with Director Loretta Todd

An experience together and a film to remember!

Illuminating Eden Robinson’s acclaimed book onto the screen, Monkey Beach is an epic and visionary tale directed by Loretta Todd. The film follows Lisa Hill (Grace Dove) as she returns to her parents’ home in the Haisla village of Kitamaat where she is confronted by a long-ignored but powerful connection to the supernatural world that surrounds her—a connection she will need if she is to save her brother who is lost at sea.

Loretta Todd—Female. Cree. Métis. White. Writes. Directs. Thinks. Produces. She challenges herself and others and makes things happen. Known for lyrical, expressionistic imagery combined with strong storytelling skills, Todd tells truths that are haunting, funny, and real.

The 2021 imagineNATIVE Tour brings Indigenous-made film and video works, as well as community engagement activities to communities across Turtle Island (Canada). Additional information can be found at imagineNATIVE.org/2021-tour.
