Join Ociciwan and Elder Francis Alexis for a teaching on Indigenous medicines and plants!

Through traditional Stoney Nakota Sioux teachings, Elder Francis Alexis will talk on medicine and plants native to this region, Treaty 6. His teaching will also include the importance of the medicine wheel, conveying ways of life that Land has known since time immemorial.

Francis Alexis is an Elder and Knowledge Keeper of ceremonies, songs, treaty, cultural ways of life, and the Stoney Nakota Sioux dialect. As a community focused person and former chief of Alexis Nakota Sioux nation, Francis Alexis works hard to ensure his Nation is Nakota strong.

 Elder Francis has experience as a pow wow master of ceremonies and announcer, facilitator of health workshops (diet and lifestyle), a language consultant for movies, a social worker and an addictions counsellor.

Accessibility notes: Garden entrance measures 4’ wide. There are no steps but ground is uneven. 6’ of access between planter paths. There are benches for seating (cement, no backrest). There’s no access to washrooms outside of event hours.
