Job Description:
Ociciwan is seeking a kind, thoughtful and dedicated individual to work alongside the director and core members in coordinating and running exhibitions at Ociciwan Contemporary Art Centre.
The Project Coordinator is responsible for organizing projects, this includes overseeing all aspects of project administration and delivery to ensure the highest standards of programming is maintained. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for managing, implementing, and ensuring the strategic direction of the programming approved and planned by Ociciwan Contemporary Art Collective. The project coordinator will report to the Director who oversees the artistic integrity of curated exhibitions and special projects/events.
The successful candidate will have experience and a passion working within Indigenous Contemporary Art within diverse communities with varying life experiences. They will maintain Ociciwan’s core values and will be willing to work with the team to ensure the safety and positive experience of all community members. Ociciwan is looking for someone who is values and community driven, who is open and positive while working in collaborative ways with open communication.
Duties and responsibilities:
Project management of curated exhibitions and/or projects
Administrative duties (i.e Regularly check emails, maintain social media accounts)
Communicate regularly with the Director
Ensure coordination regarding artwork requirements (including but not limited to the areas of production, fabrication, and volunteer requirements)
Identifying areas requiring additional support to the Director ensure the success of each exhibition and/or project
Assist in writing grant reports for each project in collaboration with the Director.
Work with the Director and project/exhibition partners to secure locations for the art projects
Work with the Director and project/ exhibition partners to organize, if necessary, an Opening Reception
Coordinate exhibition and event related copy and images.

Skills, Abilities and Experience Required
Project Management skills
Administrative skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, when required.
Experience with art gallery or public art production and management
Contemporary art experience an asset, 2-5 years culture work experience
Computer skills including spreadsheet, data management, image and word processing. Adobe Creative Suite experience such as photoshop, illustrator and/or indesign is an asset.
Ability to work under little supervision and take initiative to support the director and core-members.
Class 5 Driver’s License
Culture workers of identified Indigenous ancestry are encouraged to apply
Term of Contract
This is a part-time salary position with health benefits, after a 3-month probationary period.
Contract wages are non-negotiable. It is expected the coordinator will work approximately 20 hours per week (Wednesday to Saturday) at a rate of $20/hour. Hours may increase dependent on funding.
Some evening and weekend work will be required, dependent on the exhibition programming and events.
Start Date: August 10, 2022.

Based in amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton, Alberta), Ociciwan Contemporary Art Centre is an Indigenous-run organization. Ociciwan supports the work of Indigenous contemporary artists and designers, and engages in contemporary critical dialogue through exhibitions and community gatherings. We value artistic collaboration and foster the awareness of Indigenous contemporary art practices.
We present 4 projects a year within the Art Centre and collaborate and contribute to a broad range of art activities within the local and national arts community.
Ociciwan is an inanimate Plains Cree noun relating to current or river, translated to mean the current comes from there. The name references the North Saskatchewan River that has brought many people over time to the region. It conveys an energy of engagement with Indigenous contemporary culture, linking present with the past and the future.
